Dave’s ICAST Walkthrough: Real Specs, Built-In Jet Power, and Who the FluxJet Is For
When the FluxJet was first revealed at ICAST, it made serious noise across the industry. Winning awards right out of the gate at ICAST and backing that up with the Yak Tribe People's Choice Award for Best Motorized Kayak proved that anglers were ready for a watercraft built around an internal jet instead of clunky bolt-on trolling motors.
In this video, Dave gives a plain-English, hands-on walkthrough at the show. After spending six months trying to break prototype setups doing stupid stuff on the water, he breaks down every feature on the production model from bow to stern.
Weight Specs, Front Hatch, and Open Deck Space
Dave starts up front with the roto-molded bow handle and the dedicated front mounting plate. If you want to mount a separate spot-lock trolling motor on the bow for fishing offshore reefs, the plate is ready to go.
Here are the exact weight numbers you need to know:
- Bare Hull Weight: 88 lbs. Easy to car-top or drag down to the bank on your own.
- Fully Rigged Weight: 122 lbs. That includes all internal wiring, controls, drive components, and the battery box before you add your battery.
Instead of a tiny hatch or a narrow flap, the front hatch pops completely off. It gives you open, unobstructed access into the hull and creates one of the largest open floor spaces on any motorized kayak in this class.
Hands-Free Foot Steering and Custom Delete Plates
Steering is controlled with push-pull foot pedals. Push right to go right, push left to go left. The cables feature quick-turn adjustment knobs on the deck. If a tall guy like James gets out of the kayak and Dave steps in, a couple turns of the knob adjusts the pedals instantly for shorter legs.
The hull has four rod holders built in, but not everybody carries four rods. We designed custom delete plates with rubber wire grommets that swap directly into the rod holder slots. If you want to mount a Garmin screen or a camera and run cables down into the hull, you do not have to drill extra holes in your kayak.
One Battery Runs Everything: Voltage Regulator & Raised Lights
Behind the USB-C and USB-A charging ports sits an internal voltage regulator. Your motor, your navigation lights, and your accessories all run off the single main battery under the seat.
Because this is a motorized vessel, legally required navigation lights are built right into the deck. Push one button and your red/green bow lights and 360-degree stern light turn on. We even raised the 360 stern light higher so ocean powerboats can see you over coastal swells.
Group 31 Power Box, MOB Safety, and Dial Throttle
Your battery sits protected in a Group 31 box directly under the seat. The whole boat connects through one single heavy-duty plug. Unplug that, and everything shuts down immediately.
For safety, the magnetic kill switch clips to your PFD. If you go overboard, the magnet pops out and the kayak stops right there instead of driving away from you.
“It's called MOB, man overboard. Make sure that when you have a kill switch, you attach it to yourself... The magnetic kill switch pulls right out and the kayak stops right in place.”
Speed control uses a compact dial throttle instead of a clunky lever arm. A 1/16th inch twist gives you immediate speed adjustments. It also features an automatic safety delay when switching from forward to reverse so you do not throw yourself out of the seat when backing up.
Storage, Shallow Water Anchors, and a True 3-Inch Draft
The deck is packed with practical storage options:
- Side Seat Slots: Sized for 3600 tackle boxes or your favorite snacks.
- Behind-Seat Tray: Dedicated slot with a hold-down strap for a 3700 tackle box.
- Triple Stern Handles: Includes two upper handles with brass inserts for dual shallow water anchor poles, plus a third handle directly over the motor for easy single-handed lifting.
On the bottom of the hull, water feeds straight into the intake grate and shoots out the directional steering nozzle. With no lower unit, prop, or pedal fins hanging down, the FluxJet runs at full throttle in 3 inches of water without striking bottom or clogging on debris.
Who Is the FluxJet For?
As Dave puts it, the FluxJet is basically an ATV for the water. If you are a die-hard tournament angler who wants to customize every inch with tracks and electronics, it handles that easily. But it is just as much for families, friends, and anyone who wants to get out on the water, get wet, and have a blast without dealing with gas motors, heavy gear, or complicated setups.
